INTERNET AND WORLD WIDE WEB.

Internet is the global storage and repository of  information. It is the network of networks. It is commonly known as the information superhighways that’s why the age is called an information age.
Technically speaking, internet and world wide web are not the same. Internet is an interconnection of different computers and networks around the world. There is an  almost an infinite possibility to access and use it.
The world wide web, on the other hand, is the program that makes it possible to easily access the various files that can be found in the computers connected to the internet.
Some of the components of the internet are as follows: world wide web, email, telnet, ftp, faq, forums and bulletin boards, databases, social media, etc.       To be conversant with the internet you must be familiar with the following terms:       
1. WEBSITE: This is a collection of web pages which are linked together  to  deliver a holistic set of information to the users of the internet.
2. WEB PAGE: A web page is a collection of related information about  a  particular topic designed and delivered in an electronic format over the internet. 

3. BROWSER: A browser is a software in your computer which enables you to browse the internet. It is the browser that delivers web pages to your screen, enabling you to enjoy all the advantages of the internet listed above. Some of the most popular browsers are: Internet explorer, Mozilla firefox, crazy browser, opera, google chrome, etc.
4. WEB HOST:  A web host is a company that maintains servers that are connected to the world wide web (www) and who in  
turn  sell server spaces to the general public in order to make your websites to appear on the internet. 
5. DOMAIN NAME: Basically a domain name is the internet address of a website.
6. URL ( Uniform resource locator) Also known as web address
7. WEB SERVER: This is a computer system that delivers websites for browsers to display. It is a computer that stays on for 24/7.
8. GOOGLE: Is a website or search engine that organizes world information and make it accessible to the general public.
9. FTP: This stands for file transfer protocol. An ftp program enables you to deliver digital files to your website’s host directly from your own computer through the internet so that your website can be ready to be viewed by your visitors.
